Therapy and counselling for adolescents
Adolescence can be a very challenging time for young people and also their families. There are many changes to be coped with and understood by the young person and the people around them. Their minds and bodies are changing rapidly, getting ready for becoming part of the adult world.
During this stage in life there are many stresses and pressures a young person has to cope with, such as changing schools, passing exams and managing relationships. This can be a confusing time of trying to work out identity and place in the world. All of this can stir up a range of difficult thoughts and emotions, such as not feeling understood by others, wanting to fit in and be the same as everyone and at the same time, wanting to feel different from other people.
Parents too, can be left feeling as if they cannot keep up with everything that’s happening for the young person they thought they knew well.
Young people try to find their own coping mechanisms for this period in their lives, some are more helpful than others. I offer counselling to those who are feeling stressed, angry, anxious, depressed, self-harming, becoming isolated from friends and family, struggling with feelings of low self-esteem, difficulties with bullying, difficulties with attending school.
